Carol Kisner McGraw

Carol grew up in Terra Alta, WV and has been a resident of Morgantown since 1982. She graduated from WVU with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 1995. Although she enjoyed this role, her true passion was for Occupational Therapy. When the WVU School of Medicine opened their Occupational Therapy program she returned to school. She graduated with her Master’s of Occupational Therapy in 1999 as a member of the first OT class at WVU. During her time in OT school she had the opportunity to assist in the care of a hand patient and she immediately fell in love with this area of practice. Since that time, she has strived to gain knowledge in the treatment of hand, arm and shoulder injuries and conditions. She became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2006. A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of three years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand and upper extremity therapy. In addition, the Certified Hand Therapist must successfully pass a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. Because of changes in the profession, every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency through recertification every five years.

Carol’s career has included starting Hand Therapy departments in Bridgeport, WV and Morgantown, WV as well as opening Kisner McGraw Hand to Shoulder Rehabilitation in August is 2016. Carol works closely with each patient to help them regain their function and independence. She works to assure that each patient achieve their goals of achieving a level appropriate to return to work, sports, music, and the ability to perform all activities of daily living.

When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband, friends and three dogs as well as cheering on the Mountaineers!
